ABOUT US

MIIIKOA is a concept founded in Manchester, shaped by a passion for eyewear, art, music, fashion and culture. Brought about through a collective of multidisciplinary creatives.

DESIGN & CRAFTSMANSHIP

Designed in Manchester, each pair is handcrafted by master artisans using the finest Italian Mazzucchelli acetate and durable, luxurious metal. With aesthetics, function and longevity at the core, our timeless silhouettes are made to be worn and admired.

SUSTAINABILITY

At MIIKOA, sustainability is at the heart of our design philosophy. We craft our sunglasses using bio-acetate, a plant-based material derived from renewable sources like cotton and wood pulp. Unlike traditional plastics, bio-acetate is biodegradable and free from harmful phthalates, ensuring a reduced environmental footprint. By choosing bio-acetate, we not only offer durable and stylish eyewear but also contribute to a healthier planet. Our commitment to eco-friendly materials reflects our dedication to mindful consumption and environmental responsibility.

HISTORY

MIIKOA eyewear draws inspiration from eyewear that dates back over 2,000 years ago, the Inuit made snow goggles from bone, wood, or ivory with narrow slits to reduce glare. In ancient Rome, Emperor Nero used polished emeralds to shield his eyes while watching gladiator fights. By the 12th century, Chinese judges wore smoky quartz lenses to reduce glare and hide their expressions.
From Inuit goggles to MIIKOA eyewear, sunglasses have evolved, blending function and culture.
